Unsustainable madness

Climate Change
"One thing that keeps me from sleeping soundly on occassion, is the guilt I have inherited from my world-view concerning global climate change and the contemporary anthropocentric exploitation of the planet's limited carbon energy resources."

Is there an incompatibility between the typical mass-exploitation of carbon-based energy fuel sources and the  notion of the acceptance that the individual self-orientating characteristic of human beings is the utmost right of human-kind? I believe that further controversy rests in how the individual in today's consumer market place is exploited to maintain the normal destructive economic sect that currently has the most political force in the modern economically developed countries on Earth. I will pass over some of my concerns in the following post.

In the 21st century we live in a society which is technology developing at a formally unprecedented pace, the past century saw the most catastrophic losses of human life in our collectively recorded history - spanning between two violent world wars. It saw through the tide of technological advancement that today allows us global communication at the speed of light, great minds saw through the infinite riddles of the physics of the universe as we understood it and forged new systems of thought that allowed us to control the very matter that surrounds us in every day life, to some lesser degree or another, and which allowed us passage through the outer atmosphere and into space. What the century past did not provide us with, seemingly not so anyway, is the release from the manacles of carbon-based fuels as our primary source of productive, and economical force.

Why? - we have the most amazing technology to provide us with renewable energy for the usage of the general population, its potential is in great abundance as we sit here this day. It is like asking why does an ape not cut his way through his enclosure if you had thrown him a sturdy pair of bolt-cutters; why does he instead grasp them, inspect them, and then use them to scratch his arse with? If you hadn't noticed already, the technology that has filtered through to the civilian population in the more economically developed world is being used for the same old purposes by which people have stead fast their social activities towards for thousands of years. People are using compact computers today as a means toward fulfilling their ever fettering daily desires. The understanding of how the human mind works and goes about its general business has also been taken great advantage of, with the strategy of controlling the purchasing power of the general population, in the hope that the general population have forgotten their role in the political structure of the modern society: they are the boss, and only they hold the power. If you can persuade people to buy general sorts of items, can you also control their lifestyle? What they care about, what these persons seek toward; the goals of their everyday fulfilments and their thoughts concerning their reputable self-image on a day-in day-out basis when in a complex environment with others?

"I leave this question open for you to consider, I charge YOU, the reader of this message to circumspect the world you live in today and consider just how much your autonomy as a self-aware individual of human-kind is being eroded away by the systemic strategies at controlling wealth and expenditure in the life of you, the consumer."

I believe that the fundamental difference between human beings and their natural environment is that we understand ourselves in principle as autonomous individuals with our own sense of self-orientation. It is also an absolute right, in the light that for us to be free; that is self-orientating in the most genuine sense of what we understand to be the meaning of those words, it is a prerequisite that our environment (including our capability in choosing between alternative energy resources) provides ground for this notion to be realized.  At this moment, the full degree of choice to live a sustainable life in western society is not made readily available by un-checked, morally absent consideration towards the general freedom concerning the access to, and availability of sustainable resources in the open marketplace. Nor have effective arrangements, from my personal perspective, been made for it to be affordable in the public marketplace - it genuinely needs  to be regarded respectfully as a replacement, and not an 'alternative' to carbon-based energy solutions.

The current economic sect maintains its supremacy by withholding the technological means for the consumer market to be more open and supportive of renewable energy sources and sustainable production. However, if we are to begin to release our society from the manacles of carbon-based fuels, we must also introduce the relevant legislation which will allow the common consumer in the more economically developed west further choices in the marketplace to take the courageous step towards vanquishing the carbon-demon which threatens our descendants with the prospect of radical, and an conceivably unpredictable world-climate with near-depleted natural resources. Look to the vision of the future with further self-orientation, the sustainable low-carbon society.

More another time, thank you for reading
